Regenerated by Power

I was intrigued to learn that Methil was constituted as a burgh around 1665, but it was described in the mid 19th century as a “skeleton of a once important place”. It is a place which had fallen from its original status, but it was regenerated as a result of coal, a major source of power in the late 19th century.

This is a picture of what is true for mankind as a whole. God created man in His own image, but man disobeyed and as a result sin and death came into the world (Romans 5:12). This left man in the grip of a power that brought condemnation and judgment, but this was not the end. God gave man opportunity to deliver himself, but it only served to prove his inability to do anything to save himself. Now, God has stepped into the world in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came to be the Saviour of the World (1 John 4:14).

Today, there is power available to transform lives. Paul testified to this when he said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” (Romans 1:16). The Lord Jesus Himself said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever commits sin is the servant of sin ... If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:34,36). Concerning His death on the cross, God's Word states, “that through death He might destroy Him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Hebrews 2:14,15). This power is available to everyone who is willing to accept it by believing the gospel of Christ which is “Christ died for our sins...and rose again the third day”(1 Cor.15:3,4).
