Who are we?

We are a few Christians who meet, as far as we are able, according to what we find in the Word of God, the Bible.

We believe in one God, the Creator of all things, Who is Holy and righteous in all things but still has a personal interest in each person in the world.

We understand and believe that the Bible is the revelation of God to mankind and is therefore the only authority for any doctrine or practice. As such, we would encourage the practice of testing every detail of our life against what is taught in the Bible, 2 Timothy 3:16.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, John 1:1-5, beloved of His Father, Matthew 3:17, equal in every respect with the Father, Philippians 2:6.

We also believe that, without in any way giving up His Deity, Philippians 2:6-8, He became a true Man - born of a virgin, Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, He lived a Perfect life with no possibility of any failure or sin, 1 Peter 2:22, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 John 3:5, and as such He is able, from experience, to sympathise with every circumstance of our lives, Hebrews 2:18, 4:15, 7:26.

We believe that the Perfect life of the Lord Jesus on its own could never allow men and women to be accepted by God and therefore He had to die, taking the judgment of God for sin so that God could maintain His holy and righteous character and yet still forgive our sins and accept us into His family, Romans 3:23-26, John 1:21, 1 John 3:1.

We believe that the Spirit of God indwells all true believers, Romans 8:9, and that He gives all the ability necessary for every form of worship and service in the assembly, 1 Corinthians 2 : 10 and 12.

We believe that all who place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation become a part of the Body of Christ at the moment they believe. For this reason, we do not hold any name or recognise any external authority for government within the assembly other than the Lordship of our Lord Jesus Christ, Matthew 18:20, 1 Corinthians 12:3, although the authority of the civil government is recognised as taught in Romans 13.

In line with the example of Acts 2:41-42, we welcome all baptised believers with a desire to meet in obedience to the Word of God and who are willing to listen to and to accept the authority of the Word of God, and to share consistently in all the activities of the believers who meet in the Gospel Hall. We ask that visitors, who are not known to local believers, bring a "letter of commendation" to avoid confusion, 2 Corinthians 3:1.

In line with the example in Acts 20:28 , we recognise that the Holy Spirit will raise up overseers to guide the believers although these are "examples to" rather than "lords over" the company, 1 Peter 5:3.

You can find more details of what we believe by listening to recordings of some of our services here.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
